Mindfulness courses for Children and Teenagers exploring Emotions, Self confidence, Worry, Relationships,Concentration......
The Mindset Matters course usually takes place as a weekly session over 8-10 weeks and consists of physical exercises, stories, discussions and guided meditations on themes such as thoughts, worries, styles of communication and social interaction. Courses can be adapted (in both session length and course duration) to fit timetable constraints and the needs and abilities of the pupils involved.
Now, more than ever young people need to learn tools to help them navigate the academic, social and personal challenges they face. Helping young people develop a confident and adaptable mindset is what really matters to me and I can see the relief and sense of achievement they feel in being able to equip themselves in this way.
We are all constantly bombarded with stimuli demanding our attention. It’s good to know how to be able to stop and create space to consider our options; to know what to do with thoughts and feelings without becoming totally caught up in them and without ignoring them. Practising becoming less reactive in this way has all sorts of positive repercussions: We can respond to stressful situations more helpfully, increase our sense of self-confidence and resilience and improve our overall sense of well-being. A mind freed from stress learns better and is better able to work with difficulty.
I trained as a Mindfulness Teacher in 2016 and have since been teaching both in schools and in private groups. I initially trained with Eline Snel (author of Sitting Still Like a Frog) to teach children aged 4-12 and teenagers aged 13-19. Until 2021 I lived and worked in France, teaching these classes in French. Since returning to the UK I have been certified by the Mindfulness in Schools Project to run their .b and .breathe programs for children. I also hold a BA Hons in Psychology from Oxford University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Systemic Therapy from KCC, London.
“I learnt to notice how I breathe, to bring my attention to just focus on myself and to understand myself.”
“I’m kinder to other people and I’m better at concentrating.”
“I learnt how to press the ‘pause’ button when I’m annoyed.”
“I really liked the exercise with all the emotions stuck to the wall, it felt good to be able to express myself.”
“It really helped me with my confidence.”
“At the start I didn’t think it would help, but it was good.”
“I liked being able to relax and not have to keep thinking of 1000 things.” “It was calming.”
“Some of the exercises (‘pause’ and ‘noticing a lack of kindness’) had a much bigger impact on the children than I would have thought possible.....These lessons should be compulsory in all schools...Thank you, I have matured as a teacher since doing this course.”
